Back to School Reading Tips for All Ages

Digital Health

Heading back to school after a well-deserved summer break can be hard for the little ones. Make that transition easier for everyone by keeping reading a part of your every day schedule at home. Reading books aloud is one of the best ways you can help your child learn to read. This can be fun for you, too. The more excitement you show when you read a book, the more your child will enjoy it.

Additionally, try these tips out to encourage more reading opportunities:

  • Set aside time every day to read together. Bedtime stories can be a great way to get in some reading time and wind down before sleep.
  • Leave books in your child's room so they can enjoy them on their own.
  • Create a reading-friendly environment in their room. Include a comfy chair, fully stocked bookshelf, and a reading lamp.

If you child begins to get tired while reading, take a break so they don’t get frustrated. Be sure to give your child plenty of praise for their effort. You're their first teacher, so it's very important that you support their love of learning as much as possible.
