The Advocate I Wish I Had: Wildflower's Solution for Health Plans
It’s often said that we work in healthcare because our lives were touched by it. For me, that touch came early and unexpectedly. At 19, I was a young mother on Medicaid trying to navigate the healthcare system.
Though I was fortunate to have the unwavering love and strength of my amazing mother, navigating pregnancy and new motherhood felt like a constant negotiation with a complicated, often confusing system. I remember the endless paperwork, the appointments, and the feeling that I had to be a full-time researcher just to figure out what services I was entitled to (and this was before the internet!). Getting basic care felt like a battle against judgment and bureaucracy.
My experience—growing up in the Midwest where consistent healthcare access is a critical issue—is the fire that fuels my passion today. It's why I'm so committed to our mission at Wildflower, because our Health Advocates are providing the seamless, empathetic support that every mother deserves.
More Than Just a Program: The Human Connection
Wildflower Health Advocates are clinically trained, empathetic navigators who reach out to members who are often missed by the system. They close those critical gaps—the ones that keep members spiraling in confusion and risk.
They don't just solve problems; they build trust, turning a cold system into a warm resource.
This human connection is the core of the Health Plan's victory. For a Health Plan to truly demonstrate value, it needs positive, personal success stories and evidence of early intervention. Our Health Advocates provide exactly that, turning a high-risk liability into a supported, satisfied member—the best possible outcome for the Health Plan's reputation and retention goals.
We see the power of this human connection daily, like in the story of a member in Nevada, where access to specialists and behavioral health support can be scattered and difficult.
This member was 32 weeks pregnant when she screened positive for a high risk of preterm delivery and severe anxiety. She was isolated, uninsured due to a coverage gap, and her local clinic couldn't get her an immediate mental health referral.
Wildflower’s Health Advocate reached out immediately. The Health Advocate didn't just push links to resources; she listened. She helped the member navigate the re-enrollment process for coverage, scheduled her first virtual therapy appointment, and used our digital app data to check in on her anxiety scores daily. By connecting the member to the right care at the right time, the Health Advocate stabilized the situation.
The member went on to deliver a healthy baby at full term, feeling empowered and supported throughout her postpartum period. That is the impact of a Wildflower Health Advocate.
Delivering Dignity, Driving Outcomes
When I look at our data, I don't just see numbers; I see the potential relief on a young mother’s face when a Health Advocate says, "I can handle that for you."
Our technology is best-in-class, but it’s the human connection—the empathetic reach of our Health Advocates—that delivers the change. They turn complicated medical and insurance jargon into a clear, actionable path, helping every mother feel seen, supported, and confident in her journey.
At Wildflower, we are dedicated to making sure every mother, regardless of her background or financial situation, has a knowledgeable, trusted guide: someone to streamline her path, validate her concerns, and make sure she gets the care she is entitled to.
